In this study we present novel evidence that strengthens the paradigm of selective transfer of energy mediated by a random gating of ion channels. Specifically, we investigated the spectral response of a noisy artificial biomembrane whose electrical properties were largely dictated by embedded alamethicin oligomers. In this respect, we first evaluated experimentally the linear transfer function of the system via the white-noise analysis method. We prove that such a system displays specific ranges of frequency over which input signals pass preferentially, depending on their spectral content and the holding potential across the artificial bilayer which contains alamethicin. By employing voltage-driven periodic stimulation of alamethicin oligomers, we demonstrate that overall response of the system obeys qualitatively the predictions inferred from the transfer function analysis of it. These results emphasize the exquisite ability of excitable membranes to behave as band-limited filters and allow for maximal transfer of energy from an external stimulus over well-defined frequency ranges. 相似文献

In this work, we provide a novel variational level-set based object contour tracking approach. Thus, a mathematically rigorous variant of the Chan-Vese algorithm for image segmentation via geometric active contour model is proposed here. With respect to the original contour detection algorithm, the level set function ?(t) defining the evolving contour S t = {x; ?(t, x) = 0} is iteratively computed from a nonlinear parabolic boundary value problem that is well posed in the space of functions with bounded variations. In this article we consider a novel nonlinear PDE-based image denoising technique. The proposed restoration model uses second-order hyperbolic diffusion equations. It represents an improved nonlinear version of a linear hyperbolic PDE model developed recently by the author, providing more effective noise removal results while preserving the edges and other image features. A rigorous mathematical investigation is performed on this new differential model and its well-posedness is treated. Next, a consistent finite-difference numerical approximation scheme is proposed for this nonlinear diffusion-based approach. Smoothing of data is a problem very important for many applications ranging from 1-D signals (e.g., speech) to 2-D and 3-D signals (e.g., images). Many methods exist in the literature for facing the problem; in the present paper we point our attention on regularization. We shall treat regularization methods in a general framework which is well suited for wavelet analysis; in particular we shall investigate on the relation existing between thresholding methods and regularization. We shall also introduce a new regularization method (Besov regularization), which includes some known regularization and thresholding methods as particular cases. Abstract Double Stratonovich integrals with respect to the odd part and even part of the fractional Brownian motion are constructed. The first and the second moments of such integrals are explicitly identified. As application of double Stratonovich integrals a strong law of large numbers for efBm and ofBm is derived. Riemann–Stieltjes integral approximations to double Stratonovich fractional integrals are also considered. The strong convergence (almost surely and mean square) is obtained for approximations based on explicit series expansions of the fractional Brownian processes. The weak convergence is derived for approximations by processes with absolutely continuous paths which converge weakly to the considered fractional Brownian processes.
